It is not about “playing in class,” but about transforming learning into a more participatory, motivating, and meaningful experience.

When applied with a clear pedagogical purpose, it helps students better understand the goal of each task, become more engaged, and feel part of a shared challenge. In this way, games become a tool for learning, collaborating, and moving forward.

Gamification and Active Learning

Gamification has great potential to promote active learning. By presenting content as part of a mission or challenge, students stop being passive recipients of information and become more directly involved in their own learning process.

This approach makes it possible to work on curriculum content in a more contextualized and relatable way. Students do not simply memorize information: they use it to solve problems, make decisions, collaborate with their classmates, and progress through a meaningful experience.

The Role of AI in Creating Gamified Experiences

Artificial intelligence can add great value to this process. Generative AI tools make it possible to quickly create personalized materials: texts adapted by level, comprehension activities, visual resources, challenges, cooperative dynamics, narratives, rewards, or support materials for different learning paces.

This makes it easier to design more complete experiences that are better adapted to the classroom context. It also allows teachers to adjust the difficulty of the materials, offer different types of support, and help each student move forward at their own pace.

Book training to understand how to apply AI responsibly in education

         I want my free session

The Case of Jorge Veses: A Cooperative Space Mission

A clear example is the project presented by Jorge Veses, a teacher at Colegio Público San Félix de Candás in Asturias and winner of the special mention for bilingual project at the 2nd AI with Educational Impact Awards. Jorge used AInara to design Solar System Coding Mission, a learning situation aimed at sixth-grade students in a bilingual context.

The starting point was very specific: his groups had a highly competitive dynamic. For this reason, instead of creating an activity based on winning or losing, he designed a 100% cooperative mission. Students had to become the first group of schoolchildren capable of visiting all the planets in the solar system. To achieve this, they had to research, share information, compare data, and work as a team.

How AInara Made the Experience Possible

AInara was key to making this proposal possible. Jorge was able to generate resources in Spanish and English, multimedia readings, support materials, audio materials, matching activities, word searches, and images. All of this allowed him to organize a bilingual sequence in which students could access information in different ways.

The activity began with a research phase. Different stations were set up in the classroom, each one dedicated to an element of the solar system. Students rotated through the stations with their notebooks to collect information. The dynamic was designed so that no one could gather all the data alone within the available time. In this way, cooperation was not an extra element, but a real necessity.

From Cooperative Learning to Programming

Afterward, students had to share the information, classify the planets, and apply what they had learned. The final phase took the experience one step further: representing the solar system to scale on the classroom floor and programming a Sphero robot to travel across the planets as if it were a spaceship.

The proposal combined language learning, science, computational thinking, programming, and teamwork within a single experience.

AI and Critical Thinking in the Classroom

Jorge also introduced an element related to digital competence and critical thinking. Some of the materials generated with AI intentionally included small inconsistencies. The students’ challenge was to detect them.

In this way, students learned that artificial intelligence can be a powerful ally, but that its results should always be reviewed critically.

To learn more about this educational challenge, don’t miss Jorge Veses’ presentation on our YouTube channel, where he explains in first person how the project was created, how he integrated AInara into the classroom, and what he learned during its implementation.

Technology at the Service of Teacher Creativity

This example shows how AI does not replace teacher creativity, but amplifies it. Thanks to tools like AInara, teachers can design richer, bilingual, cooperative experiences adapted to their students’ level in less time.

Gamification, combined with language learning and generative AI, makes it possible to create more motivating and human learning situations. Because when technology is used well, it helps teachers dedicate more time to what truly matters: supporting, personalizing, and helping every student participate with purpose.

To explore this project in depth and discover the selection highlighted by the jury of the 2nd AI with Educational Impact Awards, access all the selected projects here:

Discover the selected projects

Gamification incorporates game-based elements, such as missions, challenges, rewards, storytelling, or teamwork, into an educational proposal.
